They may not be real knights, and their shining armor may be in the shape of an 18-wheeler and is probably less than shining, but these truckers are heroes. Their actions resulted in nothing less than the rescue of a 2-year-old boy from a man who was about to take him over state lines – an action that usually makes recovery much more difficult.
Jim Lowe and Austin Morris, co-drivers for Johnny Morris Farms of Hillsboro, TN were driving on Interstate 24 when they heard an Amber Alert for a 2-year-old boy who had been abducted by his father after the man had beaten up his wife. The announcement had just ended when they realized that they were driving right next to the vehicle described in the Amber alert.
As soon as they checked the license plate and identified the car, they got on the CB and notified other drivers in the area of what was happening. They then pulled in front of the car, and once other trucks up ahead had joined them in closing every lane, they slowed down, keeping him boxed in. Once they knew they had him, another trucker behind them called the police.
By the time the state trooper arrived, the rolling roadblock had slowed the car down to 30mph.
“I guess he saw he couldn’t go nowhere so he just eased over to the side and gave up,” said Lowe.
Police said that the driver had threatened suicide and was a danger to others. When the police caught up with him, they arrested him and took him to jail without incident. The 2-year-old was unharmed.
